Codename : PATI (in French : "Unknown Title Project" acronym)

On April 25th 2010, the RIdPEF decides to start a big project : a video of about twenty minutes, in order to show the creative side of this community. A little like a machinima, a little like a technical demo, a little like Snoman or the MC-Addicts videos. In short, breaking WoW for a purely aesthetic purpose.

Getting hands dirty

Over the years, some content piles up, handcrafted with love. As we gather IRL annually, conversations on the subject keep coming back, and working groups sometimes emerge spontaneously. All this will result in some of the most beautiful scenes of the movie. The community gets involved intermittently, producing content and tools.

Release : March 2023

However, the process is quite slow. This is not surprising : every cut of the film is an entirely handcrafted scene in World of Warcraft. A 3 seconds cut often requires four or five hours of work, and sometimes a lot more. The project often seems to be dead, motivation decreases over time. Then comes summer 2017, and the question arises : "so, this thing, do we quit or make it for real?". The decision is made : we will go all the way.

From August 17th 2017 to the present day (April 29th 2018), more than 8 years after the project began), several hours of hard work occur every day.

Coffee Induced Dreams

And voilà, we can at last show you the result of this relentless work. In total, the project has required a lot more than a thousand hours of collaborative work and tools development. This project is considered as the culmination of our work on the game World of Warcraft.

We also want to thank the whole modding community around the game, for the knowledge and tools gathered over time, and more specifically : Adspartan (for his Multiconverter and work on Noggit), Alram (for the wiki hosting and his work on the minimaps), as well as Schlumpf (for his huge reversing and documenting effort over the years, his contribution to many tools and among them Noggit, and for helping everyone).

A few words from the participants

This movie is the best present a modding group can offer to the rest of its community: a clean sequence of ingame shots depicting imaginary zones, sometimes whimsical sometimes weird, always wonderful. Such technical effort towards a purely aesthetic demoscene-flavored goal, isn't it the best WoW modding can offer to us? Thinking that our tools as clumsy as they are helped to capture such images, magnified with this great editing, give to all those hours spent developing them, often in the middle of the night or during class time, a rare feeling of usefulness, maybe even pride. Kisses and hugs to everyone involved directly or indirectly in this project, and to devs and reversers working relentlessly despite the storms! Gamh

I've started to be passionate about modding in World of Warcraft in 2011, and for several years I've contributed on this area in the RIdPEF community. I've finally stopped in 2015, but this video project was still around in the depths of the forum, with a sense of unfinished, and which would pop periodically in conversations. Moreover, the RIdPEF had already released a few videos about exploration, but none of them about modding, although it was the other side of its activity concerning Wow. In August 2017, in the middle of a discussion, Kyssah suggested that we abandoned the project. Her comment lit something inside me : I decided to devote some time daily to the video. This resolution turned out in more than 35 patches in the whole Coffee Induced Dreams video. Mjollna

When I started this project in 2010, I imagined something cool. What I wasn't expecting is that with the delays and the various breaks, we would finish this project with a huge amount of incredible, sometimes almost magical tools, allowing us to implement ingame our wildest dreams. Now that we've reached the end, I feel both extremely proud and particularly blissful. Thanks a ton to every person that was involved in the making of this video. You're awesome, adorable and deserve admiration. For that reason alone, I hope that this little film will find its audience.
It's an honour to have been a part of this adventure. Zhao

This project is a collection of moments and memories. Either by struggling obtaining a desired result until late in the night, or by frankly laughing with friends when seeing the unexpected result of a random modification. A long-term work with its highs and lows but which final result is as fantastic as the trip that took us there. Trèsmollo
